a little about eye makeup + a $100 Visa gift card!

Morning, friends!

Today, we talk makeup. And more specifically, we talk easy, works-like-a-charm makeup. Because any amount of time we try to spend in the bathroom getting ready usually (or at least in my case – please tell me I’m not alone here!) involves one or more small people wanting a drink, laying on the floor crying, or painting their tongue with your nice, new eyeshadow brush.

More often than not, we do like to feel pretty – whether it’s running errands, the 15-minute sweep before dad gets home, or an elusive-yet-amazing date night. We want to look and feel our best for the ones we love, for ourselves, and frankly, because we’re sometimes just nicer people if we’re feeling put together and not crummy about ourselves. (can I get an amen?)

So. The lovely folks at Almay sent me some of their new products to try out (I know! what fun, right?!), and of all of the smart shade mousses and bronzers and things (the things that make your time in front of the mirror quick yet profitable!), my very favorite was the Almay Intense i-color bold nudes kit for green eyes. And because I love a good before/after eye makeup shot, I thought it would be to try one with my kit and share it with y’all! (Ryan was such a good sport as my photographer!)

eyeshadowbeforeandafter

Pretty sure I’m a dead ringer for Kate Hudson here. Minus the effortless laugh and hair toss, of course.

BrandAmbassadors_Kate_Gallery1.ashx

The great part is that the eyeshadow kit is practically foolproof. The packaging alone sort of spells out where to put what, but there are also step-by-step instructions on the back in case you need words as well.

(Below I did an ‘every occasion’ look on the left, and a ‘special occasion’ look on the right. Just a little heavier - an extra sweep or two with the applicator. Pay no attention to the ultra-close-up shot of my pores.)

Check out Almay’s website for information about their products and don’t forget to like Almay on Facebook!

Now the fun part (as if my before/after show + Kate Hudson’s head toss + Raechel under the microscope wasn’t fun enough!)

Almay is giving one of my readers a $100 Visa gift card!

For summer, a maxi dress, big earrings and flat sandals. Love how dressed up I look with minimal effort and maximum comfort!

Summer dress with just a little extra makeup. I’m lucky that my fiance loves the “natural” look :)

Im a stay at home mama so dressing up for date night is the best! Definitely a dress or skirt, HEELS and pretty jewels. As for the makeup I love a reason to put on some bright lipstick or even false eyelashes.

Now that I’m a Florida girl, my go-to move for date night is to throw on a dress! It’s affectng my makeup routine, too – I have to find brands that stand up to the humidity. While reading this post I was hearing The Lone Bellow in my head…”Green eyes and a heart of gold!” :)

I’m a PNW girl at heart, so date night still almost always involves a hoodie (but a *nice* hoodie!), and something that won’t get too wet from puddles at the bottom. If it’s not actually raining, I’m all for a maxi skirt or dress! I’ve been using the Almay for blue eyes, and I love it. I’ve also been using their sparkly black eyeliner for blue eyes. It’s sparkly! Just add some blush and a tinted lip balm and it is date night is so on!

Add a little va-va-voom with heels instead of my usual flats or sandals. Keep the outfit comfortable because looking uncomfortable is never sexy. Add a little extra blush, mascara, lip color, and heavier on the eye color, but still keeping it simple and natural.

Date night usually means a dressier outfit, heels, and more dramatic make-up along with big earrings. As I’m typing, I’m realizing that I usually dress the same for church as I do for date night. hmmm. :) I just like any excuse to get dressed up!

My last real date night was actually a date afternoon, but it was around Christmas-time to see Trans Siberian Orchestra and I got dressed up! Mini skirt, knee high boots and a fancy top! Actually got to do my hair and make up too! Obviously we don’t get date night too often.

I don’t wear makeup day to say, so for date night I wear my bare minerals powder, blush and mascara. I never wear eyeshadow, I feel like I need a class in order to put it on! I love to get dressed up though and have lots of dresses and pretty tops for my hubby!

My go to date night look is a heavier version of my daytime look – mostly natural. I have a deep purple/eggplant eyeshadow I do very lightly for day, and it’s fun to make a bit darker for evening/date nights. Also, I might wear lipstick!! Woohoo!

My go-to date night look would consist of things that I don’t get to wear on a daily basis, like a coral summery dress, gold strappy heels, full gorgeous make-up (preferably like Kate Hudson!), shimmery lip gloss and hair in a “soft swept up-do.” Oh and a cute clutch purse too (with no crayons, diapers, or matchbox cars in it!)

A bit of eyebrow powder (Chemo left me mostly bereft of eyebrows. The powder makes a hugge difference!) light foundation and perhaps a light lipstick. I’ve never quite gotten the hang of eyeshadow. (I’m nearsighted in one eye and far sighted in the other. Eyeshadow seems to exagerate the perceived appearance of different sized eyes.) That said, I keep trying Hey, I didn’t give up on eyebrows. maybe I’ll find something in shadow that works out okay for me.

Definitely something cute and classy to wear with heels. I try to find new hair styles to try out to change it up a bit. A girl can’t forget her accessories either! Then I usually put on a little bit more makeup than usual, especially with my eyes to make them stand out when he’s glazing into them underneath the stars. Haha jk but that does sound nice! I make my eyes a little darker, and add a light shadow just below my brow line. That’s how I change it up from day and night makeup. I love wearing Almay Intense I-color trio for browns 021, and Baby lips moisturizer with a touch of lip gloss.
