$52.20

This weekend was the biggest neighborhood garage sale of the season. Well, at least the Fall part of the garage sale season. Last Spring I found my $2 video monitor at this same neighborhood sale, so expectations were certainly high!

My biggest goals were fall clothes for Hazel (since we are currently transitioning both in size and season right now and are facing a big need for a closet refresh) and fall candles (because it’s just that time, but I hate forking out $20 for a candle!). But, as it goes with garage sales, you can have a list a mile long of things you want, but you’re still at the mercy of what folks are selling on that particular day.

This Saturday I went out with just my Mom and between the two of use we spent over fifty dollars. $30 of it was my Mama’s, but I thought I’d show her finds too, just for fun!

Here is what we brought home:

$0.20 – Schelich-style humpback whale and shark – just to see that huge smile on my boy’s face

$1.00 – Old Navy top and corduroys (and tunic/dress not pictured) – just to see that sweet look (and bottom lip!) on my girl’s face! :) (Yes, these were the only clothes we managed to find for her.)

$3.00 – 2 Ralph Lauren polos, 1 pair Ralph Lauren shorts, 1 (vintage!) Izod Lacoste polo – all for Oliver

$0.50 – pretty silk fall flowers – We actually took these out to Evie’s grave Saturday afternoon so she could have pretty fall flowers for the season.

$0.25 – Crazy 8 cards – to play with Oliver, still in the shrink-wrap

$0.25 – Ziploc  separated containers – for Audrey :)

$0.50 – Walkie-talkies – for the kids!

$1.00 – Fall shorts, size 4T, NWT – for Beatrice. To be worn with tights and boots. Because that would be adorable!

$5.00 – Original pencil drawing of the Methodist Church downtown Franklin (my Mom got this for our church office – to hang alongside the original pencil drawing of our church!)

$3.00 – down-filled lumbar pillow (also for my Mom – to aid in fall-ifying her living room)

$8.00 – 2 brand new West Elm pillow covers – now to decide whether to put them on our bed, our sofa or in Audrey’s room. They’ve got pretty crewel embroidery and I love them!

$1.00 – 2 necklaces – the long one (I’ve got it doubled in the photo) looks just like one they’ve got for sale at J.Crew right now for over $30. And the red leaf one is just cool! (Though I will need to move the leaf to a longer chain. Nobody wants a red leaf choker, but that splash of red will be neat this fall!)

$1.00 – Off-white dress/tunic. – I’m thinking belt, leggings and boots with this.

$1.00 – Boys size 10 shirt – which happens to fit great and I totally plan to wear this fall. (I cuffed one sleeve jus to see).

$1.00 – COOL yellow striped sweater – maybe one of my finds of the day. I have no idea where it’s from, but I just want to wear it all day and feel special!

$12.00 – New orange wool fall coat – my Mom bought this, but I’m including it because it beats the price of any fall coat you could find in the store, and it’s in perfect shape!

$0.50 – Blue Gap cardigan – turns out it’s a little big on me even though it’s a small. Maybe it’s supposed to hang a little big? I might be okay with that. If not, I will just pass it on. I was chilly and it was practically new and matched my scarf!

$1.00 – Red loafers of glory – A perfect fit, driving shoe bottoms, so comfy and so perfectly not matching anything I own. I will wear them forever!

$3 – Wall clock – (my mom)

$7 – Eddie Bauer queen duvet and shams – really pretty, photo doesn’t do it justice (my Mom)

Six black lamp shades – see below

And probably my Tuck-and-Run deal of the day:

$2.00 – Six mini black lampshades (actually on my mom’s shopping list for her dining room!), pair of Nike Free shoes (for Haze), Navy and Black new corduroys from Delia*s (for Audrey), black Delia*s skinny jeans (for Audrey), black banana republic pencil skirt (me!), seven shirts from Gap, Forever 21, American Apparel, Old Navy, etc. (all me, but one for Audrey).

Yes, eleven clothing items AND six mini lampshades (plus 2 coloring books!) all amazingly fit into one plastic grocery bag. I think we got our money’s worth!

So I never actually found any fall candles. This is probably because we’ve lost our hard-coreness and didn’t leave my house until almost 7:30 when all the best stuff was probably already gone. But no worries – I’m thrilled  with our finds and it gives me renewed fever (and fervor!) to go back out next weekend!

Did y’all find anything good this weekend?

so i thought, “wow, raechel is doing some big time slanguage creation with cool + cruel = crewel in describing her sham-a-lam-a-ding-dongs.” but then i realized its an embroidery term. ha.

what pants are you wearing in the pic of your shoes? i am so very intrigued. is that an all over pattern? is it cords? do you wear them out?

myers and bumpus for the wins!

oh, those are actually pants I bought on Saturday too and completely forgot to photograph. They’re J.Crew city fit. And yes, all over print. They have been lovingly dubbed my “crazy pants”. Well, those and Hazel.

LOVE the coat your mom got. That’s an awesome deal. Also, the blue cardigan would be great with skinny jeans. I have one like it that’s black and I wear it with my hair in a side bun on the days I feel a bit, well, big. Something about that cardigan and a pair of skinny jeans with boots makes me feel better. And the side bun is a little more chic than a pony tail :)

Also, can’t believe all that chain you got in that necklace! I always look for necklaces like that to re-use the chain in my own City Thistle designs! Way to go!

Those pillow covers and that tunic dress are amazing! And just a suggestion: if the blue cardigan is too large, and no one else fits it, you can send it my way. Wink. And your mom did GREAT with those mini shades. I bought mine from HL during a 1/2 off sale, but they were still $3 apiece.

One suggestion: hold out until you visit for fall candles. I get my candles from a lady at our active and wonderful farmer’s market. She hand-pours her own soy candles, and I never buy any others anymore. She has hundreds of scents, the soy is so much better for you than petroleum, and it burns lots longer. Her $7 size lasts me a looong time.

My kids have those walkie talkies and crazy eight cards! Both big hits. Watch out for the crazy trucker talk on the walkies-we’ve heard some not so nice things coming out of them before :0 Love Hazel’s silver flats. She looked so pretty yesterday at church. Margot has a pair from Old Navy I scored for $.46 one time (closest I’ll come to garage sale these days!) I can’t wait for her to wear them-they can be matching! That will surely make Margot feel good in the nursery-right??

Haha – oh, Margot! Please hang out in the nursery so your Mama can sit through service! Hazel has almost outgrown her silver flats. They’re 4s – would Margot be able to use them?

I just looked, Margot’s are a 5. She has a ways to go in them. Maybe we should trade? Either way, we would love to borrow Hazel’s when she’s done-thanks!

    Hey, Raechel. L

Looks like some great treasures. We are having a Mega Sale next weekend if you feel like trekking out
to our neck of the woods. :)
